OffTheGrid is a travel program geared towards time-efficient travel planning. Those who wish to visit a foreign country but feel limited by the demanding schedule of their jobs and lives, benefit from a mixture of set scheduling, improvisational decision making and locally sourced information. OffTheGrid 2016 is the 4th year using this formula. In effort to display the beauty of this years destinations; London, Prague, Vienna & Dublin, the entirety of the trip was captured using various filming methods.

Concept & Development

About 95% of the shots featured in the video were captured using the native camera on the Galaxy S7. Using the "Pro" camera mode the 12 MP f/1.7 lens proved itself reliable in capturing high levels of detail in situations with abundant light. The low light performance on phone lenses is poor, but for the purpose of the run-and-gun nature of this video, the end result worked well enough.

Outcome

Creating professional video from footage that was often shaky, despite using various measures of stabilization was largely attained using the warp stabilizer in adobe after effects. A few shots required a bit of keyframe animation but the effect mostly smooths out micro vibrations that occur when you hold the camera up to a train window, rest on a table or balance on your arm. The editing process was quite a bit of fun, splicing footage to the music beat-by-beat. A few different form factors were mixed in to keep it interesting.
